Following the success of season 4, Will Trent is expected to return with a new season that is more emotionally charged, features more complex cases, and has events that could completely change the lives of the characters. Fans are eagerly awaiting Will Trent season 5, where secrets from the past, fractured relationships, and life-or-death choices will be at the heart of the story.
The final episode of season 4 shocked viewers with a series of dramatic events.
The death of Amanda Wagner – the GBI leader and Will’s most important advisor – created a huge void in the entire investigative apparatus. Shortly after, Dr. Seth McDale also died in a car accident while taking Angie to the hospital to give birth.
These two events almost completely disrupted the show’s existing balance.
Entering season 5, the story will no longer be simply a series of independent cases. Instead, the focus will be on investigating a large-scale human trafficking ring involving many powerful figures. According to the producers, this will be the central case throughout the season and will reflect the theme of “power corrupting people.”
The cases escalate to a larger scale: serial murders. High-tech crime. Corruption within the system. Transstate human trafficking. Cases directly linked to Will’s past. Each case not only challenges investigative skills but also forces the characters to pay an emotional price.
Besides the criminal cases, season 5 is expected to have more drama than ever before. Key highlights include: the grief following the deaths of Amanda and Seth; the fight against a human trafficking ring involving powerful figures; internal changes within the GBI after the loss of their leader; the new relationship between Will and Angie as they care for the baby together; and the mental pressure on Faith, Ormewood, and the entire team after a series of events.

Currently, ABC has confirmed Will Trent will return for season 5; however, the detailed broadcast schedule and official premiere date have not yet been announced.
Based on the broadcast cycle of previous seasons, it is highly likely that season 5 will air during the mid-2026–2027 television season, following the familiar format:
One episode per week.
Approximately 18–20 episodes for the entire season (if the structure remains similar to recent seasons).
Release on ABC and then on Hulu in the US market.
As soon as ABC announces the official broadcast schedule, fans will know the broadcast dates of each episode, along with information about trailers and the returning cast.
Season 5 is not just a sequel, but also seen as a “new beginning” for the entire Will Trent franchise. Combining large-scale cases, deep personal trauma, and changes within the investigative team, the series promises to strike a balance between mystery, action, and emotion.
