Stewart McLean, the Canadian actor known for his work on such TV series as Virgin RiverArrow, and The Irrational, has been found dead at 45 a week after going missing.

Canada’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced Friday that McLean’s remains had been recovered in British Columbia. “From the onset of the missing persons investigation, police and partners have been searching for Mr. McLean,” authorities said in a statement. “As a result of the search efforts, the remains of Mr. McLean were located in the Lions Bay area.”

McLean had been reported missing May 18, three days after he was last seen at his home in Lions Bay. Seeking help from the public, the Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police said at the time they were “very concerned for Stewart’s health and well-being.”

On Thursday, authorities announced that McLean’s case was being treated as a homicide investigation. “Squamish RCMP initiated an investigation and, through investigative efforts, uncovered evidence that led investigators to believe Mr. McLean was victim of homicide,” they said in a statement. IHIT assumed conduct of the investigation Wednesday.

IHIT Cpl. Esther Tupper said in a statement Friday, “As the investigation continues to unfold, homicide investigators are working to collect and analyze evidence, review CCTV footage and conduct interviews to build a timeline of Mr. McLean’s activities prior to May 15, 2026. We are pursuing all available leads as we work to find answers for the family, friends and loved ones of Mr. McLean.”

Earlier Friday, in a heartfelt Facebook post, McLean’s talent agency remembered him as “dedicated, professional, eager, and endlessly funny,” as well as “a truly great guy.”
