BOSTON BLUE, the hit BLUE BLOODS spin-off starring Donnie Wahlberg, is officially coming back for a second season, and fans won’t have to wait too much longer to find out what happens next.

CBS announced last week that Season 2 will premiere on Friday, Oct. 9, at 10/9c.

BOSTON BLUE follows “Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan in a universe expansion of BLUE BLOODS. Reagan takes a job with the Boston PD and is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), part of a law enforcement family comprised of District Attorney Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben), Police Superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson), rookie cop Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner) and Rev. Edwin Peters (Ernie Hudson). Reagan hopes to reconnect with his son, Sean (Mika Amonsen), in Boston,” a synopsis of the series reads.

The spin-off’s first season became one of CBS’ most watched new shows of fall 2025, and the network officially confirmed its pickup for a second season last December, shortly after it premiered, according to TV Insider.

So, what can viewers expect to see in Season 2? Hopefully resolution to the Season 1 finale’s many cliffhangers.

The Season 1 finale left fans wondering about the fate of Lena’s boyfriend, Brian, who was hit by a mysterious driver in the final moments of the episode — just hours after Lena herself had survived a near-fatal shooting. The new season will pick up from that shocking moment, following Lena’s recovery after being shot on the job while also revealing Brian’s fate after he was intentionally rammed off the road and into the water, according to Deadline.

Beyond the central mystery, longtime BLUE BLOODS fans are curious whether Danny’s long-distance romance with former partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) will finally get resolution. The couple got together in Season 1, but Danny’s move to Boston threw the pair into a long-distance relationship neither wanted. Show creators Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis told TV Insider that Ramirez becoming a series regular is “a distinct possibility” and that Danny and Baez both eventually living in Boston together is also “a possibility.” As Margolis put it, “Crazier things have happened.”

The series also plans to continue to spotlight faith through Ernie Hudson’s role as Reverend Edwin Peters, a renowned Baptist pastor and member of the Silver family, alongside Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver and Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver.

With a cliffhanger to resolve, a romance hanging in the balance and faith still woven into the Silver family’s story, BOSTON BLUE Season 2 looks poised to give fans plenty to watch for when it premieres this October.
