Boston Blue is adding another Blue Bloods connection.

Donnie Wahlberg announced that Will Estes, who starred as Jamie Reagan on all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, will appear in season 2 of the spinoff series Boston Blue.

“Welcome (back) to the family!” Wahlberg wrote in the caption of a selfie featuring Estes and his Boston Blue castmates shared to his Instagram Stories on Friday. “Jamie Reagan! aka Will Estes!”

A representative for CBS confirms to Entertainment Weekly that Estes will guest-star on season 2 of the show.

Estes is not the first Blue Bloods alum to cross over onto the spinoff, which follows Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan as he solves cases in Boston after decades in New York.

Bridget Moynahan, who played Jamie and Danny’s sister Erin on all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, appeared as a guest star in Boston Blue‘s first episode and in episode 17, “L’Dor Vador.” She also directed the eighth episode of Boston Blue‘s first season, “In the Name of the Father, And of the Son…,” after helming three eps of the flagship series.

Later in the season, Len Cariou reprised his role as Henry Reagan, Danny’s grandfather from the original series. He appeared as a guest star in episode 13, “Beautiful Broken Things.”

In the final episode of the season, Will Hochman reprised his role as Joe Hill, the son of Danny’s late brother Joe. Hochman first appeared in an episode of season 10, and recurred throughout seasons 11 through 14.

Marisa Ramirez is the only Blue Bloods alum besides Wahlberg to appear in a more regular recurring role. Her character, Det. Maria Baez, was introduced in season 3 of Blue Bloods and became a series regular in season 4 as she became Danny’s partner in the NYPD. Baez, who began dating Danny in between the end of Blue Bloods and the beginning of Boston Blue, appeared in five episodes of the spinoff’s first season.

Estes has not appeared on screen since Blue Bloods finished its run on CBS in 2024. His last non-Blue Bloods acting gig came in 2015 with the film Anchors.

Boston Blue season 1 ended with the suggestion that Danny will explore a command position in the Boston Police Department. “What detective is more overdue for a promotion than Danny Reagan?” showrunner Brandon Sonnier told EW. “What does it look like for Danny Reagan to be in charge of people? What does it look like for Danny Reagan to have to answer in a different way to the hierarchy?”

Boston Blue season 2 will premiere Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
