Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage is spending his 18th birthday in one of his favorite places — more than 30,000 feet in the sky!
The actor and voiceover artist took to Instagram on Wednesday, July 15 to mark his milestone birthday from on board a United Airlines flight. “I’m on a flight that’s gonna cross the Prime Meridian, so I’m not actually gonna get to experience July 15th lol,” Armitage wrote in the caption.
He added: “But still celebrating — also apparently I just reached 1,000,000 miles?!”
The Prime Meridian is the imaginary line at 0 degrees longitude that runs from the North to South Pole, divides the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, and on which all the world’s time zones are based.
In a carousel of photos, Armitage included pictures taken with the United flight crew, including a flight attendant and two pilots. On the aircraft, Armitage was even treated to a miniature birthday celebration complete with party hats and streamers.
In the comment section, Armitage’s Young Sheldon costar Melissa Peterman offered her well wishes as the actor enters adulthood. “Happy Birthday @iain Have the most wonderful birthday yet!!! And give your mom a hug from me!” she wrote.

The celebration even caught the attention of the carrier’s official social media account. United Airlines commented: “Happy Birthday and ONE MILLION miles, not-so-young Sheldon!”
“YOOOO thank you so much!! No better way to celebrate than flying with y’all,” he replied. Marking the special occasion with a flight comes as no surprise for the aviation enthusiast. On June 16, Armitage shared a series of photos from the cockpit of a small aircraft with the caption “Back to flying with my favorite people.”
In a conversation with PEOPLE at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles 2024 Gala in October, the Ghosts guest star revealed he had just received his student pilot’s license at age 16.

“I’ve been having a bunch of fun flying while I’m here in L.A.,” he said of what he’s been up to since the hit CBS show’s finale, adding that he “actually turned 16 with my grandmother in the plane on my 16th birthday.”
“We had a kind of fun, sort of more subdued celebration in the air. And then right when I touched down, we had a celebration at the airport at Van Nuys, which was so much fun,” he says.
Following his July 15 birthday, he revealed in a July 29 post that he “got to do my first solo flight in a plane,” describing it as “one of the very best days of my life!!”
