We’ve got exciting news for BOSTON BLUE fans. Season 2 will debut Oct. 9, according to a new CBS promo video.

“BOSTON BLUE, an offshoot of the network’s long-running BLUE BLOODS, follows franchise star Donnie Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan, who has left the NYPD for the Boston Police Department. Danny is partnered with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green,” Deadline said.

The show was officially renewed in December 2025.

“Two new shows on Friday night have become instant hits, with audiences quickly embracing BOSTON BLUE and SHERIFF COUNTRY across broadcast and streaming,” CBS boss Amy Reisenbach said in a statement at the time.

While no official plot for the second season has been announced, fans can expect some answers to the Season 1 finale’s cliffhangers— “the horrific truck crash, Lena’s injury, Mae’s (Gloria Reuben) campaign for re-election for district attorney and Danny officially joining the Boston Police Department,” Woman’s World suggested.

Alongside Wahlberg, Martin-Green and Reuben, the main cast includes Ernie Hudson as Reverend Edwin Peters, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver and Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver.

CBS Studios produces with Brandon Sonnier, Brandon Margolis, Wahlberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, and KristieAnne Reed as executive producers. Sonnier and Margolis co-showrun.

BLUE BLOODS fans have one big question about BOSTON BLUE Season 2: will Tom Selleck reprise his role as Frank Reagan?

Martin-Green revealed that Selleck “is always getting asked and as Donnie [Wahlberg] always says, the door’s open. We would love to have him and we will make sure the story is just right because Tom is so adamant about the story, as he should be and as we all should be.”

“I think it would be great if we can have him,” she added, “and I’m excited for whatever story it ends up being if he does come.”

Last November, Selleck seemed to indicate that he’s not interested in returning for BOSTON BLUE.

“I don’t know if I would do BOSTON BLUE. That’s another show,” he said. “I think it’s partly my lot in life to make sure BLUE BLOODS has its place in television history, but I don’t think it’s my lot in life to keep playing Frank Reagan.”

While Selleck might not make an appearance, Season 1 already saw several BLUE BLOODS crossovers, including Len Cariou’s Henry Reagan, Marisa Ramirez’s Maria Baez and Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan.

“It was great to see Donnie and meet the new great-grandchild,” Cariou said of his appearance, referencing Danny’s son, Sean Reagan, played by newbie Mika Amonsen.

Hopefully more crossovers are ahead, but for now, fans will have to wait until October to find out what’s next for Danny, Lena and the crew in Boston.
