If you just settled onto your couch with a bowl of popcorn and a burning desire to see Kathy Bates dismantle a corporate legal team, I have some devastating news. Your remote is fine, your cable bill is paid, and no, the world hasn’t ended, it’s just March Madness.

Tonight, the CBS Thursday night lineup has been unceremoniously shoved into a locker to make room for 40 minutes of college students squeaking sneakers across a hardwood floor. If you’re looking for Matlock, Ghosts, Elsbeth, or Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, you’re going to find a bracket instead of a backstory.

The Full-Court Press on Your DVR

We get it. The NCAA Tournament is a national pastime, a multi-billion dollar juggernaut, and a great way for your coworkers to pretend they understand sports statistics. But for those of us who prefer our drama scripted and our comedies devoid of whistles, tonight is a wasteland.

CBS is the primary home for the 2026 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, and because the network needs to air games like Michigan vs. Howard and Georgia vs. Saint Louis, the residents of Woodstone Mansion and the quirky halls of the NYPD have been benched.

When Will Your Favorites Return?

Don’t delete your series recordings just yet. This isn’t a permanent eviction, it’s a two-week hiatus. Here is the scouting report on when you can expect your Thursday night staples to return to the airwaves:

  • Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage: The Young Sheldon spin-off is taking a breather but remains a heavy hitter for the network. It has already been renewed for Season 3, so the Cooper-McAllister clan isn’t going anywhere.

  • Ghosts: Our favorite restless spirits are currently haunting the “to-be-continued” pile. The good news? CBS recently handed out a massive two-season renewal, guaranteeing we’ll have Sam, Jay, and the gang through Season 6.

  • Matlock: Kathy Bates has proven that age is just a number when it comes to dominating the ratings. The reimagined legal drama is officially returning for Season 3.

  • Elsbeth: Carrie Preston’s delightfully eccentric investigator is also safe. The procedural has been greenlit for Season 4, proving that being the smartest (and brightest-dressed) person in the room never goes out of style.

The Verdict

You can expect the full lineup to resume its regular residency on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Until then, you can either learn what a “Full Court Press” is or head over to Paramount+ to rewatch the episodes you’ve already seen.

At The TV Cave, we’re choosing the latter. Basketball is fine, but it lacks the witty banter of a Victorian ghost and the sartorial choices of a high-end Chicago lawyer. We’ll be here keeping the lights on until the madness ends.

Are you sticking it out for the games, or are you diving into your streaming backlog? Let us know in the comments if you think the NCAA should leave our Thursdays alone!
