When I said I wanted more of Mandy’s boss, I didn’t mean like this.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 19 featured a feud between Mandy and another weather girl, and it was not one with much substance.

With Mandy’s boss egging her on, Mandy broadcast middle-school insults during her weather report in an episode that was more nonsensical than anything else.

After Several Great Episodes, We Were Overdue for A Silly One

I had hoped that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 had left the nonsense behind.

The first half of the season featured one too-silly-to-be-believed plot after another, but things seemed to turn around after the midseason break.

Mandy’s job change, Jim’s hatred of being retired, and Connor’s struggle with whether to remain friends with his ex were all great stories that were hilarious without sacrificing realism.

Unfortunately, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 19 returned to the kinds of stories that I don’t enjoy at all. Kelli and Mandy’s feud began well enough, with Georgie seeking to join the Chamber of Commerce to get more business, but soon devolved into one of the most immature plots the series has ever had.

It’s especially disappointing because I thought the episode was moving in a different, far more interesting direction

The Meeting at the Chamber of Commerce Suggested Subtle Prejudice Against Reuben

During the brief scene at the networking meeting, executives marveled over how young Georgie was and either ignored Reuben or asked him where he was from.

I felt as if Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 19 was subtly signaling a storyline in which Reuben is passed over because he is Puerto Rican. This story would have been about something real and as a bonus, would have given Reuben’s character some badly-needed depth.

Most of the time, Reuben is a thorn in Georgie’s side for no real reason. His lines tend to be more annoying than funny, and it feels as if the writers haven’t yet figured out what to do with him (besides complain about all of Georgie’s decisions).

A story in which he had a real reason to be resentful would have helped address this issue and would have featured a real problem that is as relevant today as it was in the 1990s.

However, that wasn’t the way this story went at all, and the Chamber of Commerce story disappeared altogether in favor of this silly rivalry between Mandy and Kelli.

I don’t know why Connor suddenly decided that Kelli was extremely attractive, but that was the least annoying thing about this story. I couldn’t stand the two women sniping at each other as if they were on. a school playground, and the insults got worse once Mandy’s boss gave her the green light to lob them.

I was especially aggravated that Mandy’s boss wanted more of this nonsense.

I loved the idea of Mandy being hired because she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. But I wanted that to be about real issues, not about schoolyard taunts toward the competition.

And since Mandy broke the truce five seconds after offering it, and her boss wants her to keep going, this obnoxious storyline is probably going to continue soon. With only three episodes left on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2, we don’t have time for this nonsense!

I understood Mandy’s original problem with Georgie having gone to Kelli and her annoyance over Kelli’s response.

It was unprofessional for Kelli to announce on the air that her guest canceled because his wife didn’t want him to participate, and still more so to announce that the wife was her competitor on Channel 9.

That said, Mandy being angry that Georgie went to the competition and that he blamed her when he changed his mind about doing the spot had potential.

Mandy was being slightly hypocritical since the whole reason she works for Channel 9 is that she wants the freedom to say what she wants on-air, but she had a valid point about Georgie not airing their dirty laundry on TV, especially to Mandy’s biggest rival.

For his part, Georgie also had a point when he said he had asked Mandy to feature his shop on the news, but she refused, so he had to go elsewhere.

It has seemed for a while that Mandy and Georgie’s jobs are going to take them in different, and often conflicting, directions.

From the moment Mandy lost her old job, she and Georgie have not been on the same page, job-wise, and it’s easy for both of them to feel the other doesn’t value their career.

That doesn’t bode well for their futures. At some point, the gap between them will become too big to manage, and that will be that.

Still, nothing justifies the immaturity that was on full display on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 19.
