[Scene: Sheffield home. Fran is sitting on the sofa, staring at her shoes with a worried expression. Maxwell walks in.]
Maxwell: Fran? What are you doing? You’re looking at your shoes as if they’ve betrayed you.
Fran: Mr. Sheffield, I have terrible news. A disaster. An international fashion tragedy.
Maxwell: I suppose you’ve lost another pair of shoes?
Fran: Even worse!
Maxwell: I’m not sure that’s possible.
Fran: I think my feet are growing!
Maxwell: …Your feet?
Fran: Yes! My feet are betraying me. Yesterday I wore my favorite pair of shoes and my toes looked at me as if to say, “Sorry, Fran, this apartment is too small.”
Maxwell: Fran, your feet can’t just grow on their own.
Fran: You say that because you’ve never seen a woman whose shoe collection is more important than some relationships.
[Niles walks by, overhearing the conversation.]
Niles: What’s going on, Miss Fine?
Fran: Niles, I’m having a crisis. I think my legs are growing.
Niles: Really? I always thought that was the only thing in this house that didn’t need fixing.
Fran: Niles!
Niles: I was just saying you’ve changed a lot of things already. Your hair, your clothes, the way you talk to Mr. Sheffield…
Fran: Don’t forget I’ve changed his whole life.
Niles: That’s undeniable.
[That night. Fran sleeps in bed and starts having nightmares.]
Fran: No… no way…
[In her dream, Fran is standing in the middle of a street. She looks down and discovers her legs are as huge as a building.]
Fran: Oh my God! I’ve become a walking shoe!
Passerby: Look! Is that Fran Fine or a giant high-heeled shoe?
Fran: I don’t care what you think! I just want to know if I still fit into any of my clothes!
[Fran walks, each step shaking the ground.]
Fran: How can I buy new shoes if there aren’t any stores big enough to fit my feet?!
[A shoe store employee appears.]
Employee: Excuse me, miss. Our largest size is 42.
Fran: 42?! I need a pair of custom-made shoes!

[Fran woke up and screamed.]
Fran: Aaaaa!
Maxwell: Fran! What’s wrong?
Fran: I just had a terrible nightmare. My legs are so big I have to name them!
Maxwell: You name your legs?
Fran: Of course. I can’t call them “left leg” and “right leg” when they have their own personalities.
[Grace enters.]
Grace: Fran, are you okay?
Fran: Grace, promise me one thing.
Grace: What is it?
Fran: If one day I have giant legs, will you still love me?
Grace: Of course.
Fran: Thank you. At least there’s someone in this family who understands the pain of a fashion icon.
[Maxwell looks at Fran, smiling.]
Maxwell: Fran, I think you just need to rest a little.
Fran: Maybe you’re right.
Maxwell: And perhaps you should stop buying shoes for a few days.
Fran: What did you just say?
Maxwell: I said… forget what I just said.
Fran: Good. Because I ordered three new pairs this morning.
Maxwell, of course.
Fran: But just in case my feet keep growing.
Maxwell: Fran…
Fran: I have to prepare. No one knows when they’ll need a pair of shoes that are… “giant but still elegant.”
[Niles enters.]
Niles: I’ll make a note. If Miss Fine turns into a giant, the first thing she’ll worry about is shoes.
Fran: Niles, you know me too well.
Niles: That’s the scariest thing.
[Everyone laughs.]
Fran: Finally, I know one thing for sure.
Maxwell: What?
Fran: No matter how big my feet are, my style fits perfectly.
Maxwell: I can’t argue with that.
Fran: Of course not. I’m always right. It’s one of my best accessories.
[Scene ends with laughter from the Sheffield family.]
