The TWILIGHT movies turned Kellan Lutz into a star, but the actor recently revealed the success caused him to feel “lost.”
“I’m so grateful that I got a taste of the dragon,” Lutz said during an episode of the “Inside of You” podcast. “A lot of actors are like, ‘Oh, I want to win an Oscar. I want to win an Emmy.’ I don’t care about awards. I like what I get to do. I like playing characters. It’s adult make-believe and I really do love it.”
However, after being cast in the mega-popular TWILIGHT saga, Lutz admitted fame and success became more important to him.
“There were times even post TWILIGHT when I was, you know, going out for Captain America and Thor and the pressure was really, really on,” the actor shared. “I was like, I need to be so regulant and strict and do this and do that. And then I’d get so bummed on myself.”
Lutz continued, “I’m like, man, I lost me. I lost Kellan. I lost that light.”
The actor would go on to rediscover his passion for acting, starring in projects like FBI: MOST WANTED and THE LEGEND OF HERCULES. However, he traded Hollywood for a life in Tennessee with his wife and children.
“We got some land, got great Bible studies that we’re a part of, great churches, great community,” he said, via Fox News. “There’s a lot of actors. I’ve gone to probably more movie premieres in Franklin, Tennessee, than I have in LA, you know, the last couple years since I lived there.”
Lutz has previously spoken about his Christian faith. In a 2023 interview with Fox News, the actor declared, “My faith is everything.”
“I don’t know how people who don’t believe in something can have hope in anything,” he continued. “When you lose your job, when COVID hit, when people die, when there’s no work to be found, it’s depressing. So it’s one of the things where my faith is everything. It’s the top.”
His wife Brittany is also Christian, which Lutz said has strengthened their marriage.
“I’m so grateful that my wife and I believe the same thing,” he explained. “We [know] a lot of other couples who don’t believe the same thing. And I’m like, ‘That’s tough,’ especially if someone doesn’t believe in something and the other person does, because how do you say, ‘Hey, it’s going to be OK’ when that person doesn’t believe it’s going to be OK?”
Lutz might have found fame through his work on TWILIGHT, but for the actor, his faith is the most important thing in his life.
