The ‘Yellowstone’ universe has never really gone away. Since the flagship series wrapped, Paramount+ has been busy expanding the Dutton legacy through two continuation series, and by most measures, the strategy is working. ‘Dutton Ranch’ and ‘Marshals’ both launched as part of a plan to show life after ‘Yellowstone,’ with ‘Dutton Ranch’ arriving on Paramount+ as the flagship of the two. The show carries a weight of expectation that few spinoffs ever have to shoulder, and from the opening episode, it made clear it was not interested in playing things safe.

Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, returning as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler and now serving as executive producers on the show, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter before the season launched about the care that went into building something new while honoring what came before. Reilly summed up the central tension of the series with characteristic bluntness, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “I’m not sure that Beth and Rip are karmically meant for peace, but that doesn’t stop them from wanting it. And that there is the drama.” It is a line that captures everything the show has been building toward, and the first season has made good on it with episode after episode of escalating tension.

Now, with the finale just days away, one of the season’s most pivotal cast members is making it clear that the payoff will be unlike anything the Yellowstone universe has delivered before. In an exclusive interview published by ScreenRant, Dutton Ranch star Sterlin English, who plays 10-Petal ranch hand Austin Lewis, spoke with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley about what to expect from the season finale, delivering a tease that set the internet on fire: “I mean, you said it: big finale. It’s going to be big. I don’t think people are ready. It’s going to be one for the ages, for sure. Everybody’s in for a really, really good ride.”

The confidence behind those words is backed up by everything the penultimate episode set in motion. In episode 8, Austin reached a breaking point with the corruption at 10-Petal Ranch and refused to stay silent any longer, particularly after the murders of his friend Wes, played by Nakoa DeCoite, and Chet, played by Hart Denton. Austin revealed to Beth and Rip that Beulah Jackson, played by Annette Bening, has been running an operation that sources cattle illegally from Mexico, confirming that 10-Petal Ranch is directly responsible for the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak that led to the destruction of the Dutton herd.

The teaser for the finale has already shown Joaquin’s biological father, Mariano Reyes, arriving at Rio Paloma and warning Beulah to send her new associates, meaning Rip and Beth, packing before he does it himself. A convoy of vehicles appears to be making its way toward the Dutton property, and a tense confrontation between Beth and Beulah suggests that even long-simmering alliances are about to shatter. The stage is set for something seismic.

Adding to the anticipation, actor Finn Little warned fans in a separate interview that the finale could involve major character deaths, joking with co-star Natalie Alyn Lind about how many people might not make it out. Lind’s playful reply, “Nobody dies. Everybody dies,” only deepened the speculation around what the final episode has in store. The show has already been renewed for a second season, and the finale drops on July 3 on Paramount+.

With Beth, Rip, armed outsiders, exposed secrets, and a family’s criminal empire all colliding at once, the ‘Dutton Ranch’ season finale looks poised to deliver exactly the kind of explosive, consequence-heavy storytelling that made ‘Yellowstone’ a phenomenon in the first place. After a season of slow-burning revelations, the ranch is finally about to burn hot. Are you expecting Beth and Rip to come out of this finale on top, or do you think the Jacksons and Mariano Reyes have more surprises left to throw at them?
