Boston Blue is heading back to Beantown for another season.
The Blue Bloods spinoff, which follows Danny Reagan’s (Donnie Wahlberg) new chapter with the Boston Police Department, will return to CBS for season 2 in October 2026.
Though executive producers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis teased a “small time jump” from the season 1 finale, they promised that its lingering cliffhangers won’t be left behind.
“We will fill in the blanks,” Sonnier told TV Insider in May 2026. “And so if not for just that small time jump, everything else will be pointed toward let’s get to the bottom of what exactly happened at the end of season 1.”
So, what’s next for Danny and the rest of Boston’s finest? Here’s everything to know about Boston Blue season 2.

Season 2 will pick up after a quick time jump from the season 1 finale, which saw Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) survive being shot before someone intentionally T-boned her boyfriend, Detective Brian Rodgers (Ryan Broussard), sending his car into a river.
Sonnier told TV Insider that the jump will allow Lena to recover and reunite with Danny on the job, while the mystery surrounding Brian’s crash will be addressed early in the season. Danny will also explore a potential promotion after agreeing to take the sergeant’s exam in the finale.
CBS’ official season 2 description teases his “newfound leadership” within the BPD, though Sonnier told TVLine in May 2026 the writers have no plans to break up Danny and Lena’s partnership. Instead, Margolis said the storyline raises a new question: “What does Danny Reagan look like as a boss?”
Other significant season 2 storylines include Boston District Attorney Mae Silver’s (Gloria Reuben) reelection campaign, BPD Superintendent of Detectives Sarah Silver’s (Maggie Lawson) wedding to Seth Yates (Mike Vogel) and Sean Regan (Mika Amonsen) and Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner) entering their second year as police officers.
Who is in the cast of Boston Blue season 2?
The main cast of Boston Blue is expected to return for the procedural’s second season.
Wahlberg told PEOPLE in March 2026 that he “had the pleasure” of personally calling his costars to give them the news.
“Every cast member got tears in their eyes, every single one of them,” he recalled. “And so did I.”
EPs Sonnier and Margolis also confirmed to TVLine and TV Insider that a few favorite recurring characters would continue to be a part of Boston Blue.
Blue Bloods alum Marisa Ramirez will reprise her role as Danny’s girlfriend, Det. Maria Baez, and they will navigate her move from N.Y.C.
Meanwhile, Erik King and Alisha Wainwright will continue to play Lena’s biological father, Chris Williams, and half-sister, Kristina Reed, respectively.

Like its pilot season, there will be at least one Blue Bloods alum guest starring in the spinoff.
Wahlberg confirmed on Instagram in August 2026 that Will Estes would be reprising his character Jamie Reagan in the second season of Boston Blue — making him the fourth Reagan family member to do so after Bridget Moynahan, Len Cariou and Will Hochman.
As for any other familiar faces from the New York City Police Department, Margolis told TVLine that it was “a priority” to invite “folks who have not been to Boston yet this season.”
“I can just say, greedily, that we want them all,” the executive producer said. “They’re all invited, and we are always trying.”
Sonnier added, “We have extended the invitation, and people we have yet to see on the show have accepted, so there you go!”
When will Boston Blue season 2 be released?
