The Boston Blue Season 2 premiere will answer burning questions about the fate of Detective Brian Rodgers (Ryan Broussard), who was attacked and seemingly left for dead in a river in the Season 1 finale cliffhanger. The premiere will also mark the return of Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) from Blue Bloods. CBS revealed the first plot details from Season 2 on September 1, along with the first two photos from the new season of the Blue Bloods spinoff, which feature Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green.
Boston Blue Season 2 premieres on Friday, October 9, at 10/9c on CBS. The premiere is titled “The Crash,” and the drama includes Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) being offered “a career-defining promotion.”
The photos (above and below) show Danny and Lena (Martin-Green) on the case. Lena is healed from her gunshot wound from the Season 1 finale, indicating that there has been a time jump between seasons. The premiere details don’t explicitly state if Rodgers is dead or alive, but the investigation into who rammed his truck off the side of a road and into a river is ongoing.

Here’s the premiere’s description: “When a series of murders begins mirroring the infamous Boston Strangler killings, Danny and Lena race to stop a copycat killer before he strikes again. As panic grips the city, Jonah and Sean, fresh off their rookie year, as well as Henry Reagan, jump in to help Danny and Lena track down and arrest the killer. Also, Danny faces a career-defining promotion while Lena uncovers a lead that could link the attack on Detective Rodgers to a powerful figure.”
Boston Blue stars Wahlberg, Martin-Green, Gloria Reuben, Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, Mika Amonsen, and Marcus Scribner. Guest stars include Marisa Ramirez, who will return as Maria Baez in Season 2. Will Estes will reprise his Blue Bloods role of Jamie Reagan in Season 2, although his episode number has not yet been announced.
Estes’ casting was revealed by Wahlberg on August 7 after the costars were spotted on set in Boston by fans on August 6. On September 1, Blue Bloods star Vanessa Ray posted photos from her Boston Blue set visit in Beantown from August. Ray played Jamie’s wife/NYPD partner, Eddie Janko, on Blue Bloods, and Boston Blue Season 1 revealed they had a baby boy. Ray was just visiting the set, not filming a scene.
Erik King and Alisha Wainwright debuted late in Season 1 as Lena’s biological father and half-sister, Chris and Kristina. They’re presumed to be returning in Season 2.
