12 Burning Questions for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 23 li02

Greys Anatomy Season 22 1014x570

The finale for Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 has come and gone, and with it, both Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) have also left the building at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital … possibly forever.

While their fates were definitively laid out in Thursday’s (May 7) closer, there were quite a few cliffhangers for the other characters in the surgical crew.

Luckily, ABC has already renewed Grey’s Anatomy for Season 23, so we know we’ll get the answers to these questions and more when the show returns this fall. Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Grey’s Anatomy‘s Season 22 finale.

What will Meredith and Nick’s wedding be like?

After Nick (Scott Speedman) narrowly survived an operation to repair his transplanted kidney after he was injured in the bridge collapse, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) decided to take their relationship to the next level by proposing to him, and he accepted. Though she decided she won’t have a traditional wedding — she wouldn’t be Meredith if she did, after all — they are going to get hitched. With her first husband, Derek (Patrick Dempsey), they got “married” by Post-It note and only made it official when they had to at the courthouse. So how will Meredith and Nick say “I do”? Surely, it’ll be memorable somehow.

Is Jo going to quit medicine?

Another big question mark left open by the finale is whether Jo Wilson is going to quit practicing medicine altogether. She’d already expressed her frustrations with the OB residency, and the finale saw her skip out on her big test for that specialty. Now, it looks like she might not even return to her previous post as an attending in general surgery. So what’s next for Jo? Is she really going to step away from her hardwon career after all of these years?

Why is Link taking pills?

Jo’s not the only one who seems conflicted in that family. Link, after being overwhelmingly supportive of Jo’s right to whatever she wants to do with her life, took out a bottle of pills and downed one with a grimace that indicated something is seriously wrong. Is he secretly suffering from pain after his near-death experience in the explosion, or is he doing drugs for recreational reasons? Watch this space.

What will happen with Simone, Bryant, and Lucas?

After their drunken hook-up, Simone Griffith and Lucas Adams didn’t get much of a chance to talk before Wes Bryant walked in and interrupted. But what Lucas did say is that he doesn’t regret the encounter; still, Simone chose to take off with Wes, so what does that mean for all three of them? And given Simone’s fertility treatments of late, is it possible there’ll be a surprise pregnancy in store?

What’s next for Millin and Ndugu?

After witnessing all of the devastation of the bridge collapse, Winston Ndugu and Jules Millin all but admitted that they had fallen in love with one another and didn’t want to keep it a secret anymore — good thing, too, because Ben Warren  definitely clocked them sneaking out of the supply closet afterward. Ndugu has been married once before — well, twice, technically, if you count the backyard barbeque ceremony that Maggie’s father shut down as too “broke” — so could there be wedding bells in their future, too? Or maybe even more? Millin has been freezing her eggs, so maybe children are on her mind?
