Netflix Confirms ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Is Ending — But Mickey Haller’s Story Will Get the Finale It Deserves

The final verdict is in: The Lincoln Lawyer is officially heading toward its last case.

Netflix has confirmed that the hit legal drama starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Los Angeles defense attorney Mickey Haller will conclude with its upcoming fifth season. While the series isn’t ending immediately, fans now know that Season 5 will serve as the show’s final chapter.

The announcement comes after Netflix renewed the series in January, ahead of the highly anticipated fourth season, which premiered in February. Although the news may disappoint longtime viewers, the show’s creators say the ending is happening on their own terms.

“All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us,” creator Ted Humphrey and executive producer Dailyn Rodriguez said in a statement released on May 13.

The pair explained that from the beginning, their goal wasn’t simply to tell Mickey Haller’s story—it was to give that story a meaningful and satisfying conclusion.

“From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion,” they said. “While it is bittersweet, it’s also an incredible opportunity to bring this adventure to a close and potentially open new paths for some of our characters in the future.”

Since debuting in 2022, The Lincoln Lawyer has become one of Netflix’s biggest legal-drama successes. The series quickly found a global audience and, during its first week of release, became Netflix’s most-watched English-language show worldwide, generating more than 108 million viewing hours.

Earlier this year, before the ending was publicly confirmed, Humphrey hinted that the creative team had already been mapping out the future of the franchise.

“I don’t know that we’re necessarily going to do every book, and we do have plans for how to branch the show off and just keep telling stories in this world with these characters,” Humphrey told USA TODAY in February. “As long as people want to watch the show, we love making the show, and we have a lot of different ideas for the direction we can take the characters.”

Garcia-Rulfo also praised Humphrey’s long-term vision for the series.

“He knows where he wants it to go,” the actor said. “It’s easier as an actor when somebody can point you in the right direction, especially in a series where there are so many things happening. He understands the characters and brings a sense of calm to everything.”

Netflix has not yet announced an official release date for Season 5, which remains in production.

However, the creative team is already promising an emotional and rewarding farewell.

“We are immensely grateful to Netflix and A+E Studios for allowing us to land this plane the right way,” Humphrey and Rodriguez said. “Most importantly, we’re grateful to the fans around the world who have supported the show. We are building a final season that will deliver the satisfying ending Mickey Haller deserves.”

The fifth and final season will consist of 10 episodes and will draw inspiration from Michael Connelly’s novel Resurrection Walk, the seventh book in The Lincoln Lawyer series.

The final chapter will focus on Mickey Haller’s fight for redemption after being wrongfully accused of murder and forced to stand trial himself. Determined to clear his name and correct a devastating injustice, Mickey finds himself facing one of the most important battles of his career.

The season will also introduce a major new dynamic as Mickey teams up with his newly discovered half-sister, Emi, played by Cobie Smulders. Together, they work to free a woman who was wrongly convicted, setting the stage for what could be the most personal case of Mickey’s life.

According to Netflix’s official description, Mickey becomes determined to “set right an enormous miscarriage of justice.” But as he digs deeper into a dangerous network of corruption, secrets, and deception, he must also confront complicated truths about both the family he chose and the family he never knew existed.

As The Lincoln Lawyer prepares to close its final case, fans can expect high-stakes courtroom drama, emotional revelations, and a farewell designed to give Mickey Haller the ending he’s been fighting for all along.
