What is ‘Dutton Ranch’ about?

In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting and the cost of survival might just be your soul.

There are nine episodes in the first season of Dutton Ranch.

Dutton Ranch premieres on Friday, May 15 with the first two episodes.

Where can I watch ‘Dutton Ranch’?

Dutton Ranch will stream on Paramount+. Typically, new episodes drop on the streamer at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on the day of release. The show will also air on the Paramount Network on May 15 at 8 p.m. ET, with episodes airing weekly thereafter.

What was the original ‘Yellowstone’ about?

The modern-day Western premiered in 2018 as a kickoff of sorts for the Paramount Network’s rebrand and hit a cultural nerve. Set in Montana, the series follows the trials and tribulations of the Dutton family, who control the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the U.S.

Back on Yellowstone, everything Beth used to do was either for her father or for Rip. Now that her father is gone—as well as the original Dutton Ranch—she is finally making a life for herself and Rip, the man who keeps her grounded and in check. The two took in an orphaned Carter (Finn Little) after his father died at the same hospital where he and Beth met.

The British Reilly embodies Beth so perfectly, it’s hard to believe she is not the unapologetic, unfiltered daughter of John Dutton. Reilly—who was typecast in comedic roles prior to taking on the role of Beth Dutton—has previously starred in the Sherlock Holmesmovies opposite Robert Downey Jr. as Mary, Watson’s (Jude Law) paramour and eventual wife. She also starred in Britannia and the second season of True Detective. She most recently starred in the British crime drama, Under Salt Marsh.

Created by Taylor SheridanYellowstone stars Kevin Costner as patriarch John Dutton, a man trying to keep the ranch in the family as they clash with land developers, a neighboring Indian reservation and several other foes on their quest to protect their legacy.

What time period will ‘Dutton Ranch’ be set in?

Dutton Ranch will take place in the present day after the events in the series finale of Yellowstone.

Who’s in the cast of ‘Dutton Ranch’?

Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton

Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler

Rip may not say much but when he does, it’s either romantic or a hard truth. He’s one of the few people who isn’t afraid of Beth. In fact, he seems more amused by her than anything else. He isn’t too happy when Beth brings Carter home, but ultimately takes a shine to him.

Cole Hausercomes from an entertainment family—his dad is actor Wings Hauser, his uncle is actor Erich Hauser and his grandfather is director and producer Dwight Hauser. His mother—Cass Warner—founded the production company Warner Sisters and his great-grandfather was Harry Warner, one of the original founders of Warner Bros. Studios. His credits include the television series Rogue and films like 2 Fast 2 Furious and Olympus Has Fallen.

Finn Little as Carter

What can you say about this little rapscallion? He befriended Beth when the two sat on a hospital bench waiting for progress reports on their respective fathers. When his dad dies and he is left an orphan, Beth eventually takes him in after he is picked up by the cops by telling them she’s his guardian.

Finn Little had a bit of a growth spurt between filming season 4 and 5 of Yellowstone. He’s barely recognizable from the young boy who first started on the show. The teenager now looks a bit like a young Rip Wheeler!

Annette Bening as Beulah Jackson

Annette Bening will play Beulah Jackson, the head of a rival ranching empire (maybe the 6666?). Bening is probably best known for her roles in The American President,Regarding Henry and American Beauty—the latter for which she received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She is a five-time Academy Award nominee, as well as a BAFTA and Golden Globe winner.

Ed Harris as Everett McKinney

Harris is probably best known for his roles in Apollo 13, The Truman Show, and as the titular character in Pollock. More recently, he was probably best recognized as the husband to Oscar winner Amy Madigan. Harris’ other credits include Top Gun: Maverick, Westworld, and Snowpiercer.

Morgan Wade as Carol

Country music sensation Morgan Wade joins the cast in a recurring role as Carol, a bartender who works at the local watering hole. This marks her acting debut. Country singer Riley Green recently made his acting debut on another Yellowstone spinoff, Marshals.

  • Juan Pablo Raba as Joaquin

  • Jai Courtney as Robbie Willis

  • J.R. Villarreal as Azul

  • Marc Menchaca as Zachariah

  • Natalie Alyn Lind as Oreana

Will other Yellowstone characters and actors appear in the spinoff?

No word yet if we’ll see some familiar faces from Yellowstone on the show. Perhaps we’ll get a visit from Jimmy (Jefferson White) who works a ranch in Texas. We’ll see if Kayce (Luke Grimes) will be able to take some time away from his job from the U.S. Marshals or if his job takes him down to Texas to see his favorite sister and perhaps make a stop in Tulsa!

If things don’t work out with the new foreman, we may see some of the Bunkhouse Boys like Ryan (Ian Bohen), Walker (Ryan Bingham), Jake (Jake Ream) pop up looking for work. Perhaps Teeter (Jen Landon) will show up, though it’s unlikely. Landon, who plays Teeter, recently landed a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy.

Where was Dutton Ranch filmed?

Dutton Ranch was filmed in the town of Ferris, Tex., and the surrounding areas. Ferris is about 20 miles south of Dallas.
