Grey’s Anatomy Star Jason George Addresses His Future After Major Cast Shake-Up

As Grey’s Anatomy prepares for its 23rd season, longtime cast member Jason George is offering fans some reassurance about his future on the beloved medical drama following a surprising round of cast departures.

Speaking with Us Weekly, George revealed that he fully expects to return as Dr. Ben Warren when the series comes back.

“I think I can confirm that Ben is coming back,” the actor said. “I’m pretty certain I’m coming back.”

George, who first joined Grey’s Anatomy in 2010, has become a familiar face within the franchise, later reprising his role in the hit spinoff Station 19. Reflecting on the show’s longevity, he praised the creative team for making difficult decisions that keep the series evolving.

“They’re not afraid to make the hard decisions in terms of story to keep the story as fresh and alive as possible,” George explained. “But they do it with respect.”

His comments come after reports that fan-favorite stars Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd would not return for Season 23, marking one of the most significant cast shake-ups in recent years.

According to George, Grey’s Anatomy has always been transparent with its actors when major decisions are made. He recalled initially fearing the worst when producers contacted him years ago about joining Station 19.

“I thought it was a call to say, ‘Sorry, man, we’re writing Ben off the show,’” he admitted.

Instead, the conversation led to a major new opportunity within the Grey’s universe. George contrasted that experience with stories he has heard from other productions, where actors only discover they are being written out after reading the script for their final episode.

Looking ahead, George acknowledged that no television series lasts forever.

“Every show that gets on the air gets canceled someday,” he said. “It’s just a matter of whether people treat it with respect along the way. That’s what I have, and that’s a good time.”

The actor also shared his admiration for departing co-stars Raver and McKidd, describing them as “some of the best people” he has encountered during his career in Hollywood.

Meanwhile, Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes paid tribute to the pair in a statement, celebrating the emotional conclusion of Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman’s long-running love story.

“Kevin and Kim bring extraordinary talent, nuance, and heart to their roles,” Rhimes said. “Their contributions leave an indelible mark on Grey’s Anatomy, both in front of and behind the camera.”

First premiering on ABC in 2005, Grey’s Anatomy remains one of the longest-running scripted television series in network history. Original stars Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr. continue to be part of the franchise more than two decades after its debut.
