“Dutton Ranch” premiered May 15, giving audiences a look at life for fan-favorite couple Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler as they step into a new chapter.
The first episode of the long-awaited “Yellowstone” spin-off, titled “The Untold Want,” opens with Beth, played by Kelly Reilly, and Rip, played by Cole Hauser, on their Montana ranch enjoying a peaceful life following the events of the “Yellowstone” series finale.
That peace is quickly disrupted by a wildfire that destroys their ranch and any prospects of rebuilding in Montana as they’re forced to relocate to Texas where they can get more for their money.
They purchase a 100-year-old ranch in the fictional town of Rio Paloma, Texas and begin planting roots.

Who is the Jackson family?
While Beth and Rip adjust to life in Texas, the audience is introduced to the Jacksons, a multigenerational family that owns the 10 Petal Ranch.
Beulah Jackson, played by Annette Bening, serves as the family’s matriarch, known for her firm, no‑nonsense attitude.
Her oldest son, Juaquin, played by Juan Pablo Raba, is a polished businessman who appears to oversee much of the operation, while Rob-Will, played by Jai Courtney, the younger son and ranch foreman, stands in contrast, appearing rougher around the edges and prone to trouble, including falling off the wagon and using racial slurs.
When Rob-Will murders one of his ranch hands after learning the man may have discovered his involvement in shady activity, older brother Juaquin is left to handle the fallout and deal with the distraught wife.
The audience is also introduced to Oreana, played by Natalie Alyn Lind, Rob-Will’s daughter and Beulah’s granddaughter whom Beulah hopes will one day take over the ranch. Oreana, however, seems less interested in the responsibility and more focused on growing closer to Carter, played by Finn Little, Beth and Rip’s quasi-adopted son.
What happens in the first two episodes of “Dutton Ranch?”
After Beth and Rip settle into their Texas home, Beth sets out to find a butcher for her steer. She meets Beulah, who says she’ll only slaughter the animal in exchange for a cut of the profits, a condition that doesn’t sit well with Beth.On her drive home, Beth comes across a car accident involving an injured horse. There, she meets local veterinarian Everett McKinney, played by Ed Harris, whom she persuades to save the animal. The two begin to form a friendship as he treats the horse and helps connect Beth with a new butcher.
Rip’s time in Texas is just as eventful as he has an altercation with Rob-Will and later discovers the body of the murdered ranch hand on his land. He decides to hide the body, keeping it a secret from Beth.
The dynamics of the Jackson family are explored further in the second episode, particularly the relationship between Beulah and Oreana, as well as the tension between Juaquin and Rob-Will, which deepens as they search for the body and discover it has been moved.
