Danny Reagan and Lena Silver have their work cut out for them in Boston Blue’s sophomore season.

PEOPLE can exclusively reveal the trailer for the CBS show, which offers a glimpse at Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green’s lead detectives as they crack some of their toughest cases to date in what Lena calls “America’s biggest small town.”

“Every town has a dark side,” Danny says in the clip.

The footage finds Lena revealing that she and Danny are investigating how five women died (in a “pissed off city looking for answers”) as Danny explains they’re now “up against a new Boston strangler.”

A few other returning cast members make their season 2 debuts in the clip, including Ernie Hudson (Reverend Edwin Peters), Gloria Reuben (DA Mae Silver) and Maggie Lawson (Sarah Silver). Mika Amonsen’s Sean Reagan and Marcus Scribner’s Jonah Silver are also back as the crew works together to “catch a killer.”

“You sure you’re up for his, Beantown?” Danny asks Lena at the end of the trailer.

“You go, I go,” Lena responds, as Danny warns she should “buckle up.”

Boston Blue’s second season picks up after its premiere run ended on a cliffhanger. After Lena herself was hospitalized, her boyfriend — Det. Brian Rogers (Ryan Broussard) — got into a car accident that landed him apparently submerged in water.

Executive producers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis previously teased a “small time jump” from the season 1 finale. “We will fill in the blanks,” Sonnier told TV Insider in May. “And so if not for just that small time jump, everything else will be pointed toward ‘let’s get to the bottom of what exactly happened at the end of season 1.’”

A spinoff of Blue BloodsBoston Blue follows original series character Danny as he swaps his duties in New York for a new life in Boston to be closer to his son, Sean. After a saga of high-stakes cases, Danny eventually learns to call Boston home. Boston Blue first arrived on CBS in October 2025 following Blue Bloods’ 14-season run.

Will Estes, who played Jamie, the brother of Wahlberg’s Danny on Blue Bloods, reprises the role in season 2 of Boston Blue.

Boston Blue premieres Friday, Oct. 9, on CBS. Fans can also tune in on Paramount+, where season 1 is currently available to stream.
