Even though it has been over a decade since the Twilight saga concluded, Robert Pattinson keeps getting bombarded with questions related to the series.
This time, during a sitdown with Jennifer Lawrence for Vanity Fair‘s Lie Detector Test, Pattinson was asked whether he’d be open to reprising the role of Edward Cullen. His answer is what you’d expect from Pattinson, who didn’t shy away from taking jabs at the series.
Oh yeah, for sure. I don’t think you should. It would be great! I like taking jobs of younger actors. I do. I want to play 17 again.
While The Batman star was obviously joking, as he has come a long way as an actor since his initial boom in the Twilight saga, the franchise’s shadow still follows him to this date.

Robert Pattinson Can’t Escape Twilight‘s Shadow
Although Pattinson’s filmography has been immaculate in the last decade, and he successfully escaped being typecast by pushing his dramatic chops to the limit, even that wasn’t enough to escape what a cultural behemoth Twilight was.
The Batman star himself acknowledged its impact and its impressive legs when it comes to being relevant in the pop culture zeitgeist. While in most cases, a filmography that comprises works like The Lighthouse and The Batman of all things would’ve overshadowed the artist’s earlier work, in Pattinson’s case, he still gets asked about Twilight to this day (via Extra TV).
It’s amazing. I can’t believe the cultural legs that movie has had … just mind-blowing to me. It’s so cool … I get asked about it every single day … I have such fond memories about the whole thing. I’m so grateful for it.
On the bright side, even though a Twilight return is off the cards, Pattinson could still don the shoes of a bloodsucking beast, if the rumors surrounding Chloé Zhao‘s Dracula are true.
Robert Pattinson Almost Starred Opposite Jennifer Lawrence in Twilight
Before Kristen Stewart nabbed the role of Bella Swan, Jennifer Lawrence, whose career took off after headlining The Hunger Games, auditioned to play the character in the Twilight movies.
But as it goes, she fell short of Stewart, and by a long margin. According to The Hunger Games star, it wasn’t a close race, revealing that she was turned down from the prospect of playing Bella almost immediately (via The Rewatchables).
They turned me down immediately. I didn’t even get a callback.
That is rough, especially when it comes to an actor of Lawrence’s caliber. Fortunately for fans, they can enjoy Lawrence and Pattinson’s chemistry in Die My Love, boasting one of the former’s best performances to date.
