Everything to Know About Line of Fire, NBC’s New Family Drama

LINE.

A family fully immersed in the Secret Service, action-packed storylines, and jaw-dropping twists are all on the table when it comes to NBC’s new drama, Line of Fire.

Line of Fire, which was first announced in May alongside a slate of new shows coming to NBC, introduces viewers to a family of characters who each serve in different branches of protective services. Starring Peter Krause, the Parenthood actor described the drama as a “fantastic family-centered show” and “an action thriller” during a May 2026 visit to TODAY.

“The writer, Josh Safran, brings a lot of family dynamics to it: the good, the bad, the ugly, the funny, the sexy. It’s a very interesting, unusual show,” he continued.

Jenna Bush Hager — an executive producer on the series who has real-life experience of being surrounded by the Secret Service during her father President George W. Bush’s years in office — perfectly summed up the overarching theme of Line of Fire: “When you’re protecting other people, can you also protect the people you love?”

What is Line of Fire about?

The official Line of Fire synopsis reveals that the new NBC drama follows a “family of law enforcement agents” as they come across a dangerous case.

“A family of law enforcement agents bridges personal differences and crosses professional boundaries as they tackle cases for the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service and Department of Justice,” the synopsis reads. “After a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy, they must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice … even if it means betraying their sworn code.”

During a May 2026 segment of TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, Bush Hager shared that the series is partly inspired by her own real-life experiences growing up with protective agents nearby.

“It really is super interesting because it kind of springs from some experience that I had, having Secret Service, which is that protective services do everything for other people and what does that do to your own family?” she explained. “It’s about a family of people that are in d

ifferent branches of protective services, and there is this big mystery to it. But it’s also about when you sacrifice time with your own family to protect others, what does that do to you all?”

“It’s a family drama, but it’s like, to me, if Scandal and Six Feet Under kind of had a baby, but also with that really pulsive mystery,” Bush Hager added.

Who’s in the cast of Line of Fire?

Line of Fire stars Peter Krause, Hope Davis, Kat Cunning, Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom, and Charlie Barnett.

While full character details have yet to be announced, what we do know so far is that Krause plays a father named Mike Hollingsworth, while Davis plays his wife Jane. Cunning also stars as another member of the Hollingsworth family named Clare, Bloom plays Russ, and O’Brien plays Mike “Micah” Hollingsworth Jr.

“I’m in the Secret Service,” Krause explained on TODAY in May 2026, referring to his Line of Fire character. “My middle son is in the Secret Service. He’s a bit of a thorn in my side.” Krause also teased that his character’s son “may or may not be having an affair” with the president’s daughter in the series. Cue the drama!
