Premiering in 2007, The Big Bang Theory followed a group of nerdy scientists at Caltech. As the series went on, they eventually fell in love, got married and had kids, growing the core cast and adding in more supporting characters.

After a modest start, the show ended up becoming one of the most-watched sitcoms of all time, running for 12 seasons before finally concluding in 2019.

But even before Big Bang ended, it received its first spinoff with Young Sheldon, which told the backstory of Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) as a young boy growing up in Texas.

Since then, more spinoffs have premiered, further growing the Big Bang universe. The latest spinoff, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, is turning Big Bang into a multiverse, which is likely going to lead to some epic cameos and potentially pave the way for more spinoffs in the future.

Here’s everything to know about all The Big Bang Theory spinoffs, and what might be happening next.

Young Sheldon

Airing 141 episodes over seven seasons from 2017 to 2024, Young Sheldon is a prequel to The Big Bang Theory, following Sheldon’s life growing up a genius in his small Texas town.

Iain Armitage took on the lead role, and he was joined by Annie Potts playing Meemaw and Zoe Perry playing his mom, Mary Cooper. The casting was a full-circle moment because Perry is the daughter of Laurie Metcalf, who played Sheldon’s mom on The Big Bang Theory. The show also explored the lives of Sheldon’s siblings, Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Missy (Raegan Revord).

“They were so young when we started,” co-showrunner Steve Holland told PEOPLE in 2024. “Watching them grow and watching them get better, it opened up what we could write every year, which was exciting. We keep saying that somehow these kids managed to avoid any sort of awkward stage. They went from being really adorable little kids to being incredibly attractive young adults.”

The series also touched upon prominent moments in Sheldon’s early life that are referenced in The Big Bang Theory, like the death of his father (Lance Barber), and Georgie’s marriage to Mandy (Emily Osment).

Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage

Just five months after Young Sheldon concluded in May 2024, Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage premiered. The series is a sequel to Young Sheldon and a prequel to Big Bang, picking up right where Young Sheldon left off.

But, its focus shifts toward the ups and downs of Georgie and Mandy’s lives as they navigate marriage, parenthood and life with their broader Cooper and McCallister families, who have been reluctantly brought together by the unexpected marriage.

“In some ways, we’ve watched these characters grow up together,” Osment told Variety in 2025. “They’ve been handed a lot of big stuff that I think they’re doing really well at handling, but it’s a lot. These are two young people raising a kid together. They didn’t really know each other well, and now we get to see what their relationship is like.”

As the seasons have progressed, numerous Young Sheldon characters have become integral parts of the show, with Mary and Meemaw becoming supporting characters, and Missy making regular appearances.

“It’s always a bit surreal to be on this set because everything feels so familiar, and yet it also feels like a fever dream,” Perry told TVLine in 2025. “We’ll be in some of our familiar sets, but there’s always something a little different — and it’s the same even in these storylines.”

The third season premiere was set for Oct. 8, 2026.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe

In the HBO Max original Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, comic book store owner Stuart (Kevin Sussman) starts tampering with a device created by Sheldon and Leonard, which accidentally rips open a wormhole and gives him access to the entire multiverse.

He’s joined by other Big Bang supporting characters like Bert (Brian Posehn), Barry (John Ross Bowie) and Denise (Lauren Lapkus), and thanks to its multiverse premise, the show is creating tons of opportunities for cameo appearances from other Big Bang stars.

“There’s a lot of easter eggs put in,” Lapkus said on CTV’s Your Morning in June 2026. “People you’re familiar with will appear.”

In February 2026, Big Bang co-creator Chuck Lorre admitted to PEOPLE that he took a big risk with the new show because of its wild premise. “It’s a science fiction action-adventure comedy,” he said. “We just finished principal photography and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s a big swing. I think it will be revered or reviled, I’m not sure which.”
