Throughout the series, Jason didn’t just fight enemies on the battlefield. His biggest battle was within himself: the haunting memories of years of service, guilt, unforgettable losses, and the struggle to find his true self outside of his uniform.
Spencer Hudnut revealed that if Season 7 wasn’t the final season, Jason’s original story would have continued to revolve around redemption and healing. Instead of a quick conclusion, Jason and Mandy Ellis are expected to embark on a journey together to Afghanistan, where Jason confronts his most painful memories from the past.

Jason and Mandy could become the center of season 8.
One of the most attention-grabbing revelations for fans is Mandy Ellis’s larger role.
In the final version of season 7, viewers saw Jason continue his journey to confront his past in a different way. But originally, Mandy was supposed to be Jason’s companion on that journey.

Drew Franklin could have had a bigger story
Drew is one of the controversial new characters in season 7.
If season 8 happens, the writers plan to continue delving into Drew’s past, especially the complicated relationship between him and his family.
This character is built as someone who always feels like an “outsider”, even in his own family.
Season 8 could have given Drew a chance to understand the source of those traumas and begin the process of reconciliation with loved ones.

Spencer Hudnut said as the season was being developed, the production team had to change some key parts after learning this would be the final season. Therefore, some story lines that were intended to last into season 8 were included in the ending to bring a more complete feeling to the audience.
This explains why many fans feel like season 7 feels like it’s opening up new stories instead of completely closing it.
Because in fact, it was originally designed as a door to the next chapter.
Can ‘SEAL Team’ return for season 8?
Currently, there are no official plans for season 8. Paramount+ has confirmed season 7 to be the series’ final season.
