Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage has been the one cast member from the spinoff prequel series yet to make an appearance on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The actor opens up about whether or not he’s open to returning in a cameo role and if it’s needed.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has, so far, brought back a lot of the original stars like Raegan Revord as Missy Cooper and family matriarch Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper. The series has even done the job of making fans shed a tear with the return of George Sr., played by Lance Barber, in a dream sequence in Season 1. The question is: Where’s Sheldon?
In an interview with TV Insider, Armitage let fans know that he’d be “honored” to return as his original character. Fans shouldn’t jump at the possibility too quickly, as the actor also reveals that the show is doing great enough without him.
“I’d be honored to. I’ve been loving watching Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. They’re doing an awesome job as a cast,” he said. “The cool thing about the entire Big Bang, Young Sheldon, Georgie & Mandy universe is the fact that each spin-off show has really kind of taken on its own unique flavor as it’s been on television.”
While giving some hope of returning to his role as Sheldon Cooper, Armitage finally reveals that the series doesn’t need him to appear in a cameo. He’s open to a possible holiday special, but is content letting the rest of the cast take over the spotlight.
“As much as I would love to, and as fun as it would be at some point, I don’t think it’s necessary. I think it would be fun, and I would love to do it, but they’re doing such an awesome job. I would feel bad going in there and diluting their hard work,” he said.
“Maybe a holiday episode one day, but in the meantime, I like getting to sit back, and they don’t make me work. I like to sit back and watch it as a fan, too.”
Armitage adds that the writers of Big BangTheory, Young Sheldon, and Georgie & Mandy can “make anything work” and can create “opportunities for me to be on the show.” Following the end of Sheldon, the actor admits he’s ready to “bounce around” a few series he has his eye on, like Tracker, Survivor, or even Matlock. He will star in Ghosts, his first TV role since the popular series.
